You can also place a chair beside it, like a velvet chair, for example. You can also place other types of decorations around it as well. After all, what you are really after is the complete look of a classic home that a fireplace provides. The fireplace is just an accessory. It doesn’t have to be the main attraction.

Buy the right kind

If you are still in the hunt for the right electric fireplace for your home, then you should choose one that resembles the real thing. The more realistic the electric fireplace is, the better it will look in pictures. Try to get one that is at least 40 inches in height. This is because standard fireplaces usually come in this size. When you get en electric fireplace that looks like the real thing, then you don’t have to do much as far as decorating it is concerned.

Take care of the wall

You need to take care of the wall above the fireplace. As much as possible, do not leave it bare. You can hang a big mirror above it or a piece of art. It doesn’t have to be an expensive piece. A nice photo of your family will do. Just remember not to hang anything that is wider than the fireplace. You can also install shelves on each side of the fireplace and then use the shelves to store decorative conversation pieces and knickknacks. Just don’t overdo it. You just want to decorate the area surrounding the fireplace not collect clutter.

What about the floor

It is also a good idea to put decorations on the floor. A cheap option would be to place baskets on the side of the fireplace. You can also use plants or big art pieces. The key is to add drama to the fireplace. The problem with most electric fireplaces is that they look bare and minimalist.
