Again, these will be accompanied by some non-protein nitrogenous compounds. Fresh vegetable matter used as all or part of a digester feedstock will contain true protein, amino acids complexed with polysaccharides and purines and pyrimidines. The amount and nature of nitrogenous constituents of excreta can change as it is stored. So the composition of slurries fed to anaerobic digesters may not be the same as that of freshly-voided excreta.
