Anacanthobatis ori (Wallace 1967) (Fig. 7F) This is a little-known deep slope skate collected from off Bazaruto Island, central Mozambique (Wallace 1967). It was subsequently collected from off Madagascar (Seret 1986a, b) at 1,000– 1,725 m and is currently known from four juvenile specimens including the holotype and paratype. We examined the holotype but did not obtain additional material. Cruriraja durbanensis (von Bonde and Swart 1923) (Fig. 8A) This rare and distinctive skate differs from other southern African Cruriraja in lacking rostral spines and in having a dark brown dorsal surface and largely dark brown ventral surface (except for white areas around the mouth and on the abdomen).
