Here’s one of my favorite photos from my Spring Minis:

It’s a brand new day…

After nearly 7 years of shooting together, Dan and I find our career paths taking completely unexpected turns! Over the past year or so, Dan has discovered a love of filmmaking that is truly undeniable, and I can do no more than support him as he pursues this new form of storytelling. I’m so proud of all he’s accomplished over the past several months, including film an Audience Award-winning short film for the 2010 48 Hour Film Project, shooting his first full-length feature film for Stockholm Pictures, DP-ing several other shorts and commercials, and, most recently, producing AND filming a short for the 2011 48 Hour Film Project. He’s been busy, and he’s loving every minute of it!

In order to keep his schedule open for new film work, Dan will no longer be booking weddings with me. It’s a little sad, of course, but mostly we’re both really excited about all the great experiences coming his way!

If you have already booked Dan and I as a team for your wedding, then don’t worry — we’ll both be there in full force! But all future bookings for 2011 or later will be booked with me as a solo shooter, or with one of my trusty second shooters (who are totally awesome, by the way)!

Dan and I are so fortunate to have worked together for nearly a decade, and we are grateful to every single couple who chose us to celebrate with them on such an important occasion. But today is a brand new day, and we’re ready for whatever life throws at us next!

I look forward to working with lots and lots of wonderful new couples over the next several years. This is a new adventure for me, too, and I’m embracing the changes whole-heartedly!

With love,

Anne

Step Into Photoshop!

What is it?
Dan’s teaching a 2-day bootcamp on Photoshop!

Why Photoshop?
From page layouts to 3D rendering, Photoshop is the Swiss Army knife of the creative world. There is almost nothing you can’t do with this amazing tool!

What will I learn?
By the end of the class, you’ll be comfortable with Layers, Text tools, Brushes, Actions… all the basics that you need to work in Photoshop. You’ll be able to design a clean, quality logo, and lay out business cards and other designed materials. You’ll experiment with templates and gain an understanding of color space and printing processes. Then we’ll delve into photo retouching and image manipulation!

Bonus!
On day two, Anne will end the class with a couple hours of Lightroom training!

What do I need to participate?
You will need your own computer (either a laptop or desktop), along with Lightroom 3 and Photoshop CS5. You can download FREE 30-day trials of both. Click HERE for the Lightroom 3 trial, and HERE for the Photoshop CS5 trial.

What’s the schedule?
Friday, February 25 – 8pm: We’ll have a little mixer with all the class participants. What’s the point of a bunch of cool people coming together if we don’t hang out?
Saturday, February 26 – 10am: Up ‘n’ at ‘em! We’ll get started after breakfast on Friday morning, break for a late lunch, then come back for a few more hours of computer time.
Sunday, February 27 – 10am: Much the same as Day 1, but with the added bonus of some Lightroom training after the lunch break!

What does it cost?
The class is $499 per person. If you register in November, it’s only $425!
Beverages and snacks will be provided throughout the day. (Lunch is on you, so feel free to brown-bag it, or we’ll find some sweet local spot to chow down at.)

Where is this awesomeness happening?
Right here in Atlanta, GA! Once we have a full class roster, we’ll finalize the exact location.

How do I register?
E-mail us at hello@danandanne.com, and we’ll send you the registration link. We’re keeping the class size small, so register early!

…and here we go!

Over a year ago, our clients Sara and Itan dubbed us “The Amazing Almasys”. Pretty sweet, right? Since then, Sara and Itan have become two of our dearest friends, and subsequently we have learned that A) they thought our last name rhymed with “Amazing”, and B) so does everyone else — except the people who think it rhymes with “O’Massey”. Oh, yeah, and then there are the endless Google searches for “Alsmay” and “Almsay”, and the nervous smiles from people who end up just introducing us as “Dan and Anne”.

So rather than try to teach the world to say “Almasy”, we decided to makes things simple… with a fabulous new website with an easy-to-say new brand:

Dan & Anne

After all, our business is us. It has always been us, and always WILL always be us. So forget trying to pronounce our all-too-complicated last name, and just remember our adorably-rhyming first names. (Or recall the hounds from “Where the Red Fern Grows”.)

Now before we return to our editing and picture-taking, we have to offer up our appreciation to our clients, our friends, and our family. Thank you for supporting us. Thank you for encouraging us. Than you for believing in us. And, most of all, thank you for pointing out that our last name is pretty impossible to pronounce. WE LOVE YOU!

Dan & Anne
(still the Almasys!)

P.S. Oh, and if you were wondering, our last name is pronounced “ALL-muh-see”. Who would’a thunk it, huh?

Morgan: Designer+Dress

Since I’ve been blogging so much lately about Atlanta’s own fabulous sustainable wedding gown designer, Morgan Boszilkov, I thought I ought to share one of the images I took of her last year, in her own self-created wedding dress. Her husband is a lucky guy!
