Married! Laura + Daniel

Photos by Dan and Anne Almasy

In the south, you never really know what you’re going to get in November.  It could be 40 degrees outside; it could be pouring rain; it could be dark and dreary.  But Laura and Daniel’s wedding day was sunny and 65 — the PERFECT fall day to get married!

We got started at Kairos, a Grant Park congregation who has taken over a beautiful old church building just a few blocks from the park.  Before Laura and Daniel moved to California, this was their church home.

Tony Brewer and Company designed the floral arrangements…

Daniel got some bow-tie help from his groomsmen…

So, I really can’t blog about Laura and Daniel’s wedding without also mentioning the near-chaos that ensued when the zipper on Laura’s wedding dress broke!  By “broke” I mean “fell apart completely”!  AH!  There wasn’t time to take the dress all the way back to the bridal salon for repair, so I called my sweet friend Morgan of Natural Bridals, who lives just around the corner from the church.  She rushed over to save the day for a bride she’d never met, wearing a dress she didn’t make.  Morgan was the HERO!

Laura’s sister helped the dress-repair process by taking charge of Laura’s veil…

I about died when I saw this shot of Dan’s!  What is more appropriate to a southern wedding than a Chick-fil-A car?

Laura and Daniel decided to see each other before the ceremony, so we were able to get some great photos of their first moments together!

Then everyone headed over to Grant Park for photos…

The groomsmen…

The bridesmaids…

Bouquets and boutonnieres…

I LOVED Laura’s loose, natural hair style; and her makeup was perfect!  Nikole at Van Michael Salon did an amazing job!

Laura’s niece, the little flower girl…

Ceremony time!  Daniel’s face as Laura walked in with her dad…

The parents all look on…

The whole (new) fam!

Another kick-a$$ wedding sign from Chocolate Butterbean greeted guests who arrived at Park Tavern for the reception…

The first dance…

Event design was also managed by Tony Brewer and Company

Another fanta-bulous wedding cake by Publix!

Toasting…

Daniel’s parents…

You must immediately to over to Funk Sandwich‘s website and get a taste of their awesomeness!  They had EVERYONE on the dance floor until the very end of the night!

About half-way through the night, Laura and Daniel broke out the props!  Every single guest was playing blow-up guitars, wearing sunglasses, sporting fake mustaches, or distributing glitter over everything with what appeared to be fake microphones!  It was AWESOME.

Laura and her dad…

The grand exit!

HUGE thanks to Sunny Bowles for coordinating the day, and making everything run so smoothly!

Laura and Daniel, we had a BLAST at your wedding!  (Thank you so much for trusting two people you’d never met to be there capturing it all!)  Congratulations!

Obasi is new here!

When Dan and I photographed Maisha and Torry’s wedding celebration last November, I never imagined that one year later I’d be photographing the two of them again — this time with a brand new baby boy! Well, Obasi wasn’t QUITE brand new; he came a few weeks earlier than expected and had to do some hospital time. But he’s a strong little guy, and now he’s growing like crazy at home with his wonderful mom and dad! I’m so happy that I got to be one of the first to meet him!

What’s so awesome about being an only child?  You get ALL the toys!

Married! Melissa + Hunt

Photos by Dan & Anne

Hooray, for another wedding brought to you by the absolutely wonderful Amy DiLoreti!  Amy and her lovely assistant Tiffany are two of our FAVES, and they made the entire day truly flawless.

Melissa has become such a dear friend to me, and it was a complete BLAST for Dan and I to celebrate with her and her awesome fiancee – wait, no, HUSBAND – Hunt!  There are so many great photos from their day, and I had to refrain from making this blog post 300 images long… so here are just a few favorites.

I started the day at Melissa’s hotel, where I found this sweet note from her brother…

Hunt’s mom loaned Melissa the beautiful blue ring for her “something borrowed, something blue”…

Showing off her ring to her mom…

Dan started with the guys at Nadine’s Triple Crown, where the guys all were treated to straight razor shaves!

Melissa and her dad…

And really, you can’t be in the Virgina-Highlands without getting burgers and beer at Moe’s & Joe’s, right?

A PERFECT fall day for a wedding at Mount Vernon Baptist Church!

Melissa’s elegant Casablanca gown…

I seriously don’t think Melissa could have been any more beautiful!  She’s a stunning woman as it is, but she totally glowed the entire day!  The lovely Beth Pilgreen did her makeup, and Milly from Salon Carcica created Melissa’s updo.

All of the floral arrangements were by Lamb’s Ear Designs

Melissa and her mom in the sanctuary…

It’s almost ceremony time!  Melissa’s maid of honor delivered a last-minute note from Melissa to Hunt…

Hunt’s first look at Melissa, as the doors opened for her to walk down the aisle…

During the ceremony, Armonico String Ensemble played.  Let me be honest for one minute: Dan and I hare a LOT of string ensembles at weddings, and, well, most of them are just awful!  Armonico’s pieces, however, were completely perfect in every way.  We hope to see more of them around town!

The parents…

The wedding party…

Everyone hopped in their cars and made the short trip over to Atlanta Country Club for the reception!

The Moxie Band got the party started, and kept everyone on the dance floor all night long!

Publix made the adorable wedding cake, and Melissa and Hunt served Hurricanes as their signature drink.  (Hurricane Katrina was responsible for Hunt relocating to Atlanta — and the reason he met Melissa!)

HAHAHAHA!

Hunt dancing with his mom…

Melissa dancing with her dad…

This happy couple were the matchmakers for Melissa and Hunt — AND they were the last standing on the dance floor at the end of the Anniversary Dance, meaning they had bee married longer than anyone else at the party!

SURPRISE!  Melissa had peach pies from The Varsity brought in as a special gift for Hunt, who LOVES them!

I love the look on Hunt’s face when the waiters walked in wearing Varsity hats!

I had to include a photo of our friends Alissa and Ben, whose wedding we photographed back in 2008.  We knew so many people at Melissa and Hunt’s wedding, it was like a mini-reunion!

The last dance…

The grand exit…

This was a first: Melissa and Hunt invited me to ride with them in their limo back to the hotel, then get a few photos of them in their suite at the St. Regis!  I had fully intended to ride up front with the driver, so Melissa and Hunt would have some privacy, but he already had a passenger with him in the front seat!  So I crawled over all of their bags and gift boxes, and *tried* to just hide away in the corner.  Instead, we all wound up laughing and swapping stories… and I got some of my favorite photos of the night.

Melissa and Hunt, Dan and I are so happy that we got to celebrate with you guys!  You are so, so, SO perfect for each other.  We know that you will be just as happy as we are after 6 years of marriage.  May God bless you both — and bring you to Atlanta often!

Beckett is new here!

About three weeks ago, I got an e-mail from my friend Morgan’s husband — straight from the hospital, he had e-mailed me a photo of their brand new baby boy, Beckett!  Even better, he asked if I might be available to come to their house and photograph Beckett in just a few days.  OF COURSE!  I was so happy to get to meet the new little man.  When babies are just born, they have the softest skin and they sleep ALL the time.  It was such a sweet, quiet shoot.  I’m so happy for Morgan and Scott, and so honored that I got to be one of the first to meet their little one!

Oh – and when you’re done enjoying the photos, be sure to check out Morgan’s phenomenal eco-friendly wedding gown collection!

Here’s Beckett on a quilt that Morgan made for him.  Sunshine above, tennis court below!

Engaged! Laina + Josh

I’ll be shooting Laina and Josh’s wedding all by my lonesome next year, so doing an E-Shoot with them was the perfect warm-up!  I LOVE these guys.  They are so happy and cheerful and friendly and… I’m just so glad to be working with them!  Right now they’re living on opposite coasts while Josh finishes school, and I think it helped to make them extra-excited just to be together on this beautiful fall day.  We hit up two of their date spots: Atlanta’s giant Piedmont Park, and, just around the corner, one of Dan’s and my favorite restaurants, Apres Diem.

The last photos that we took outside at Apres Diem are my absolute faves of the day!

Laina and Josh, thanks so much for trusting me to take care of you guys on your wedding day!  I’m so happy to be celebrating with you!  -Anne

First comes love…

When Dan and I photographed Allison and Jeff’s wedding two years ago, I never imaged that they would be calling me up to photograph their new TWINS!  (But I’m SO glad they did!)

First up: Allisons and Jeff, holding their twins, are joined by Jeff’s daughters and Allison’s sister — oh, and we can’t forget the fur-baby!  Bailey was my second golden retriever of the day!

I speak from experience when I say, there is nothing better than being an auntie!

I don’t think these girls could be any more relaxed in front of the camera.  That’s probably because their stepmom is a photographer, too!  Check out some of Allison’s sweet photos here

Dontcha just wanna squeeze ‘em?

Good big sister…
